Theresa Coyne Fickett passed on unexpectedly July 24, 2013, with family by her side. She was born in Portland, Maine to Martin and Barbara Green Coyne, the ninth of ten children. Theresa attended Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School. She married A. Warren Fickett Jr in June 1947. They raised five children and enjoyed thirty-four years of marriage until his death in 1981. Theresa leaves the legacy of a very close knit family kept strong through her indomitable strength and loving support. Although tiny in stature, she was a tower of strength. Theresa was fun-loving and enjoyed being surrounded by her family, playing board and card games. She and her friends met regularly to play mah jongg. She was also an avid sports fan, and could often be found watching basketball, hockey or golf on television and she seldom missed a Red Sox or Patriots game.
Theresa worked at the University of Southern Maine and retired after twenty years of service. She was an active member of Our Lady of Hope Parish and she belonged to the St. Patrick’s Women’s Council.
She is survived by daughters, Kathleen Fecteau and husband Roger of Portland; Patricia Weaver of North Yarmouth; Janice Fickett and husband Mark Wiley of Dover, NH; a son Robert Fickett and wife Vicky Morgan-Fickett of Wells, ME and grandchildren, Daniel and Jean Fecteau, Leanne and Evan Hammonds, David and Joyelle DiBiase, Charles and Melissa Weaver IV, Anthony and Anna Caiazzo, Matthew Caiazzo and fiance Jennifer McGahey, Denise and Christopher Gaudette, Caitlin Fickett, Darian Fickett, Conor Wiley, and Theresa Wiley and thirteen great grandchildren. Also surviving, are son-in-law Thomas Caiazzo of Gray, ME; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Mary Fickett, and Richard and Carol Fickett, and many nieces and nephews.
Theresa was predeceased by her husband Warren; a daughter, Barbara Caiazzo; a grandson, Michael DiBiase; and son-in-law Charles Weaver III; six brothers, John, Coleman, Martin, Michael, William and Francis Coyne and three sisters, Mary Coyne, Barbara Riegert and Rita Lovejoy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Monday Evening July 29, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine. Prayers will be recited Tuesday July 30, 2013 at 10:15 A.M. at the funeral home to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. at St. Pius X Catholic Church 492 Ocean Ave. Portland, Maine.
