Portland – Mrs. Sieglinde “Sigi” Verrier, age 83, of Alpine Rd., passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully on March 17, 2025 at her home in Portland. She was born on April 6, 1941, the first child of Heinz and Marta Ratius (Waibel) of Schwabisch Gmund, Germany.
Sigi studied business in school and, upon completion, secured work at the Bismarck Kaserne, the U.S. Military base in Schwabisch during the Vietnam conflict, in 1967. It was during her time working at the U.S. Army base hospital that she met and eventually married her husband, Donald, on December 8, 1968. They spent the next 6 months traveling all over Europe before moving back to the U.S. to ultimately settle on Alpine Road where she raised a family and helped her husband build his dental practice. She spent the remainder of her life and passed in that very home she loved so much, which was her true wish.
In 2008 she proudly became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America.
Sigi will be remembered for her limitless love and devotion to her family and friends, her sense of humor and kindness toward others; her extensive fruit and vegetable gardens, beehives and, of course, her beloved chickens.
She is pre-deceased by her parents, Heinz and Marta as well as her beloved husband, Donald Verrier.
Sigi is survived by her daughters, Jasmin Boucouvalas of Saco, Michelle Davis of Falmouth and Nicole Foster of Yarmouth; her grand-children Shaun, Robert, Joshua and Brandon; great-grand-child Robby; her brother Heinz and her sister Sonja as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend an hour of visitation from 11 AM – 12 PM on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, ME 04103. A memorial service to celebrate Sigi’s life will be held at 12:00 PM followed by a celebration of life gathering with some of her favorite foods and beverages.
