Samuel "DJ Daze" Santos Gaiewski

Sam was born in 1968 in Reading PA and grew up in Great Brook Valley Worcester MA. Growing up in the projects with limited means helped mold Sam into the resourceful, creative as well as often critical man he was. By these traits Sam had impeccable style creating and maintaining the hottest sneakers and phattest clothing with his love for hip hop culture and specifically music.

Seemingly born with a musical ear he taught himself how to be a turn table DJ scratching his first records on his mom’s old Zenith cabinet record player. Through time and ingenuity he progressed in skill and equipment and rocked out some of the most memorable parties, events and clubs in western Massachusetts in the 1980s and into the early 90s. In 1995 after a few struggles in life Sam moved to Lewiston Maine. There he continued his unique style that spread into his cars being “tricked out” as only Sam could do. He continued with his music earning his degree in music production and sound recording engineering. He opened a small recording studio, Sam I Am Productions, collaborating, recording and producing countless artists. He also honed his musical talent of making beats. During this time he performed at events & shows in Portland ME, Hartford CT, Providence RI and Queens NY.

In 2001 to showcase the artists he worked with and share his music with the public he hosted the First Annual Hip Hop Festival in Lewiston’s Kennedy Park and received a letter of thanks from mayor Kaileigh Tara for his give back to the community through this event. In 2003 he opened a night club, Club Hypno, where he was the house DJ as well as provided a performance venue for many acts. In 2005 Sam took his musical abilities on the road recording and performing with artists in Massachusetts, New York, Dayton & Cincinnati OH and Houston & San Antonio TX. In 2008 Sam returned to Maine only to face a diagnosis of brain cancer. Surgery was performed to remove a large tumor from his brain and the prognosis of a life expectancy of six months was given. True to his “take no prisoners”, “say hello to my little friend”, tenacious and obstinate personality he took that prognosis and stomped it out surviving 11 years longer than projected. During those years Sam continued to make his music. He watched his children grow up, said good bye to his mother, welcomed the arrival of his grand children and experienced the adventure of a lifetime traveling to Puerto Rico with his friends. Sam was a talented musician, a loving brother, father and grandfather and a loyal steadfast friend who will be missed by all those whom his life graced.

Sam was predeceased by his mother Shirley Gaiewski of Worcester MA and survived by his children: Samuel Gaiewski Jr of Fitchburg MA, Felisha Gaiewski of Fitchburg MA, Cassandra Regner of Westbrook ME and Madelyne Regner-Gaiewski of Lewiston ME; his grandchildren: Yazmari, Joel, MJ, Samuel and Thomas; his sisters: Anja Gaiewski of Worcester MA and Denise Gaiewski of Auburn MA; his brothers: John Gaiewski of PA and Dan Gaiewski of PA; and his close friends: Wilson Toledo of Worcester MA, Paul Keenan of Leeds ME, Angel “Davo” Morales of Vieques Puerto Rico and Jon Cary of Lewiston ME.

To honor Sam’s wishes for no funeral, the family is holding a Remembrance Celebration on Saturday November 9, 2019 at 2 pm at Schemengee’s 551 Lincoln Street Lewiston, ME. Menu will be available including gluten free options. All are welcome to come and celebrate Sam’s life.
