Roger Travers Lawrence passed away at Fallbrook Woods nursing home on December 10, 2024. Roger Lawrence was born to John Christopher and Viola Mae Lawrence on October 1, 1928. He was born at their home at 894 Washington Avenue, Portland Maine.
As a young man Roger worked across the street at John Kern & Sons meat company at 901 Washington Avenue. Roger always said that this company helped his family survive through the depression of the time. Not only did he work there, but his father did, and his eventual step-father, (Harold B. Meserve), worked there also.
Growing up during the Great Depression left a lifelong impression for hard work and a strong work ethic.
Roger worked as long haul truckdriver around New England, Mid-Atlantic and Canada. It was work he always leaned towards despite advice from family and teachers that he might want to do something else. Work was something that made Roger happy and he was fortunate to be someone who did exactly what he wanted to for his work life.
Roger spent time in Hawaii when he was stationed there with the Marine Corp. It was here that he met his life companion, Abilina Aquino of Aiea, Oahu. They were married on July 9, 1949 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. They had a few moves between California, Maine, and Hawaii but settled in North Deering, Portland, Maine.
Roger worked for Sanborn’s and A.P.A trucking companies based in Portland. After retiring from trucking, he worked for O’Connor Motor Company.
Roger and Abilina had four children, three boys and one girl.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Abilina and by their eldest son, Michael George Lawrence.
Roger is survived by three children, Robert J. Lawrence, (Patricia) of Portland, Maine, Anne Kemer, (James) of Raleigh, NC, and John R. Lawrence, of Portland, ME. He and Abilina have seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
There will be no services.
