Portland – Robert L. Wade, Sr. passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Maine Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Portland, ME on March 28, 1929 to the late Frederick and Catherine Logan Wade. Robert was a selfless man with a genuine smile who always saw the good in others. He was truly the nicest man one could meet. He had a sincere love for his family and his top priority was taking care of the love of his life, Maryellen. As a young child, Robert entertained as a tap dancer, bringing a modest amount in to help his parents. His love for dance and music continued through his adult life and he would often break into dance randomly with family members when he heard a favorite tune. His dedication at the United States Postal Service as an Engineman was what would support him and his family. He also worked at Graf Bros trucking Co. and the Chestnut Street Methodist Church. Robert also served his country in the United States Army and the Army National Guard as a medic, Merchant Marines and retired civil service from the U.S. Postal Service after over 30 years of service. He was an active member of the community involved at young age as a sea scout, then later on in life as a member of First Baptist Church where he enjoyed ushering and greeting people. He was a member of Deering Lodge #183, Cumberland Lodge #12, Major Heney Knox Lodge of Massachusetts, Deering Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star #59, Portland St. Albans Commandary #2, Joppa Royal Arch Chapter #13 R& S.M., Kora Shrine and the Odd Fellows. He is predeceased by his siblings, Frederick, Franklin, Lance and Audrey. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Maryellen Wade; daughter, Robyn Farwell and her husband, Robert; son, Robert L. Wade, II; grandchildren, Christopher Robert Farwell and his wife Kassie, and Kimberly Farwell. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation Thursday, December 1, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. with the officers of Deering Lodge #183 conducting a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Funeral Service will be held on December 2, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
