Scarborough- Robert C. McCubrey, 86, of South Portland, passed away on March 6, 2015. The son of Robert W. and Charlotte (Otis) McCubrey, he was born in Portland ME on May 3, 1928. He graduated from South Portland High School. He married Barbara Thompson on November 9, 1947. Robert worked for Chevron Oil Company for 32 years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose for many years and had a passion for his camp at Alder Stream in Eustis where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was predeceased by two sons, Dale and Peter McCubrey. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara McCubrey, his daughter Carol McCubrey, of Sacramento CA, his daughter, Marian Wheeler of Baldwin, and his son Robert A. McCubrey of Windham. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Sherry Holt of Gloucester MA, Ernest Holt Jr. of Lakeworth FL, Michael McCubrey of Bridgton, and Andrew and Matt Wheeler of Standish, seven great grandchildren, five brothers and a sister.
Robert’s family would like to thank the staff of Seaside Nursing Home for their care of him for the last several years and to the staff of Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, for their special care and compassion.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 4-7 PM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A funeral will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook in the spring.
