Portland, Maine: On June 4, 2023, Robert More Gould (“Rob”) unexpectedly died of natural causes. He was 56 years old. He leaves his parents: Mary-Louise Gould of Scarborough, Maine and Donald B. Gould of North Hampton, New Hampshire; his sister, Jean Gould of Gorham, Maine; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as numerous friends from the US and around the world.
Rob grew up in the small town of Manchester- by-the-Sea, Massachusetts where he graduated from Manchester High School. Later he received a BA degree from the University of Vermont. Rob’s great mind, natural wit, exceptional creativity, and gregarious personality were the foundation of his remarkably successful twenty-five-year career in Marketing and Public Relations. He currently was the Director of Global Public Relations at WEX, an international leader in financial technology solutions, where he worked for approximately eight years. Earlier, he served as the Director of Social Media Agency Communications at the VIA Agency (2005-2011); and before 2005 at several other marketing firms in the US and abroad.
Rob was active in the Portland community, happily shraring his time and talents with The Telling Room, an organization dedicated to empowering youth (ages 6 through 18), to share their voices with the world through writing, and where he served as Vice President of the Board. He was also the Director of Communications for “TEDxDirigo,” and an active supporter of both the Steppingstone Foundation and the Portland Museum of Art.
Rob enjoyed an array of interests: art, travel, books and movies, medical anthropology, the beach and various forms of exercise, albeit, as he admitted, “grudgingly at times.”
In addition to his beloved Gould family, Rob had a large community of friends and colleagues he worked, dined, traveled, and laughed with. He was quite a comic and trusted friend, and they loved his friendship. Perhaps most especially he was devoted to his cat, Rufus, who ran the household and will miss him a lot.
His family and friends also miss him as they experience his absence, but they can hold in their hearts memories of this good, decent, caring, intelligent, capable, and generous man.
God Speed Rob!
There will be no wake or funeral. Rob’s family will arrange for an appropriate memorial observation at a later date. In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, his family respectfully suggests that a donation in his memory be made to The Telling Room: https://www.tellingroom.org/in-memoriam-rob-gould
