Portland, ME - Robert Eugene Gaudreau, 71, of Portland died peacefully surrounded by his children on March 16, 2022. He suffered a cardiac arrest at Mercy Hospital on Father’s Day 2021 and never recovered.
Robert was born April 14, 1950. The son of Edward Louis and Edith Constance (Hoyt) Gaudreau. He grew up in South Portland attending Holy Cross School and graduated third honor part from South Portland High School, class of 1969. He studied business at the University of Southern Maine and work as an accountant.
Bob was an avid reader, and enjoyed learning about all the sciences, especially astronomy. He would often be found reading a college text book for fun. Bob taught everyone he could about the stars.
Bob devoted most of his time helping others. He was very active with mental health and well-being groups. Particularly the H.O.P.E. group at Portland Recovery Community Center. Bob was a compassionate man and always put others first. He was a proud member of the Maine Mayflower and John and Priscilla Alden Societies. His friends and family will miss his loving Christmas cards, his corny jokes, and his Bob-isms.
He is survived by his son Marc Gaudreau, and his daughters Renee Blazejewski and husband Matthew, Nicole Hanson and husband Kevin. Grandchildren Jacob, Abby, Tyler, Taysia, Haylee and Jamison. His Brothers Edward L. Gaudreau, David M. Gaudreau, Sister in Law Pat Gaudreau and many beloved nieces and nephews. Also dear friends Ray, Jack and Julie. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Jean E Gaudreau, Brother Arthur.J Gaudreau Sr and nephew Arthur Jr.
Bob’s family would like to thank the angelic nursing staff and Dr. Pithadia of Mercy Hospital for all their love, support, and kindness over the past nine months. They are the angels that walk among us.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, March 28, 2022 from 10 – 11 am at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Rd, South Portland. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am at Holy Cross Church. Burial will be held at a later date in Newington NH.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Bob to the H.O.P.E Group through the Portland Recovery Community Center.
