Robert Frank Berry

South Portland- Robert Frank Berry, 82, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024. “Bobby” was born on December 12, 1941, the youngest child of Arnold W. Berry and Mary C. (Dascanio) Berry. He grew up in Portland, Maine with his sister Loretta (Berry) Allen and brother Kenneth Berry. Bob graduated from Portland High School class of 1960. He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy R. (Hemingway) Berry on September 5, 1964. Bob and Nancy were married for 56 wonderful years until her passing in 2021.

Bob and Nancy began their lives together in Portland before moving to South Portland, where they raised their two children, Dean and Brenda. The Berry home was always a happy place where everyone was welcome and the scene of many gatherings throughout their lives together.

Bob retired from the John J. Nissen Baking Company. His career spanned more than 30 years where he made many friends and was a proud member of the Bakers and Confectionery Union. Bob was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. He was a member of “The Dew Sweepers” at the Riverside Golf Course for decades. After retirement, he continued his outdoor pursuits, spending time with Nancy, their close friends and their growing family. Bob was a tinkerer who could find a use for and fix anything. He loved being able to help his friends and neighbors.

Bob was blessed with three beautiful grandchildren, Callaghan Berry, Jacob Berry and Kathryn (Kate) Carr.

Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy, and his brother, Kenneth Berry. He is survived by his son, Dean Berry, his wife Christa and their children Cal and Jacob of Scarborough; daughter Brenda (Berry) Carr, her husband Chris and their daughter Kate of Laguna Niguel, CA; and his sister Loretta (Berry) Allen of Portland, Maine.

A graveside service for Bobby will be held on July 19, 2024 at 10am at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/maine) in honor of his wife, Nancy.
