SCARBOROUGH – Richard Joseph Rioux, 88, passed away peacefully at Scarborough Terrace on April 26 2024. He was born in Portland on March 16, 1936, the son of Alfred J. Rioux and Alma Larou Rioux. Richard was one of eleven siblings. He had eight sisters and three brothers. His childhood family lived on Peaks Island. He attended Portland High School and graduated in 1955.
He and his grammar school sweet heart, Faye Curran, married and continued to life on Peaks Island and later moved to Portland.
He served in the United States Air Force and later was a Portland Fireman for twenty years. Richard also had a roofing company, built houses with his nephew, and worked for Quirk Electric for ten years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred J. Rioux and Alma Larou Rioux; siblings, Alma McDonough, James McDonough, Barbara Souza, Donald Rioux, Shirley Michaud, Jean Kosciw, Joan French-Cook, Audrey Bryant, and Maria Ragucci.
Richard is survived by his sister Florence Griffin and her husband Erhard; his daughter Rhonda and her husband John Quirk; his grandchildren Christopher and Brittany; and many nieces and nephews.
He is remembered by his sister-in-law Marie Rioux, brother-in-law Tony Ragucci, and good friend Louis Alexander.
The family would like to thank staff at Scarborough Terrace where he was well loved and cared for. Lots of thanks go out to Compassus Hospice who stayed with him in his last days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 3-5 PM at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland.
A private interment will be in Forest City Cemetery in South Portland at a later date.
