Richard D. "Pete" Lanoue

Pete was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts on February 19, 1932 to Ralph and Anna Lanoue.

He attended Mount Hermon prep school, graduated from Tufts with a degree in electrical engineering and received a MBA from Wharton School of business. Pete married Betty McLeod in 1955.

After a tour in the US Army, he went to work for Alcoa Aluminum. They settled in Bethel Park, PA to raise their three children. In 1972 Pete left Alcoa to open his own office furniture manufacturing company, Craftsman Office Furniture in Los Angeles, California.   Upon retirement in 1987, Pete and Betty split their time between Maine and California, finally settling in Portland in 1999.

A loving husband, father, and brother, Pete touched many lives through his years.  He was willing to lend a helping hand when asked.   Pete was a strong man of faith.  He was active in his church, Thornton Heights United Methodist and served on many committees throughout the years.   He was also known to show up to help for a public supper.  He served on the United Methodist regional board.

He loved to travel and saw all of the United States and most of the world with Betty. In retirement he consulted with many businesses, helping them grow from small businesses without losing the feel of being a small business. Pete loved working in the woods and cut fire wood for many years. He was a big fan of Big Band music and musical theatre.

Pete is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty, his children, Suzanne Barnes, Robert Lanoue and his wife Sandy and Helen Baldwin and her husband Scott, his brother, Donald Lanoue (Joy), his sister, Anne Weber (Bob), and 4 grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held in December at Thornton Heights United Methodist.
