He was born in Portland on August 6, 1956. He attended Portland schools graduating from Deering High School class of 1974. After graduating he went on to work in the electrical field for many years. He was very successful at it and loved the challenge. A cancer diagnosis in 2011 and continued decline in his health forced him to retire in 2014.
In 1987 he flew to Santiago Chile where he was dropped out of a helicopter onto a mountain to ski. He often spoke of this amazing opportunity as one of his favorite memories.
His greatest accomplishment was the birth of his son Brandon March 1, 1988, followed by the birth of his grandson Logan in January of 2014. He loved being a grampy and spent hours reading, doing workbooks, playing cars, building construction sets, or just watching TV with him. They were his pride and joy and greatest love.
His favorite activity was playing pool with his friends. When not shooting pool or skiing “Pic” (his nickname) enjoyed ice fishing with his close friends and cousin Jay Richardson. So many of his stories and memories involved Jay and we all know he loved telling his stories.
Rick will always be remembered by his friends and family for his sick sense of humor, extremely quick wit, and turning everything he could into a pun. For years every time he and his family saw each other it was a game to see who could flip the bird first. He loved to make others laugh and was amazing at doing so.
He was predeceased by his parents, infant brother William, his half brother David, and his ex-wife and best friend Jane Quinn with whom he shared his son.
He will be loved and missed by his brother Paul Grant and his wife Pamela, his sister Pamela Matthews and her fiancé Michael, his sister Nancy Profenno and her husband Edward. His son Brandon and grandson Logan. Nieces and nephews Chris, Jaime, Angela, Sara, Michael, and Dylan. 10 great nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Rick will be buried with his mother and grandfather at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland.
In lieu of flowers please either visit him and tell him your favorite story about him or just keep his memory alive by thinking about him every time you hear a pun.
