Richard Montgomery Chaplin II, 66 of Westbrook, ME died December 24, 2014.
Dick was born in Portland on April 24, 1948 to the late Mortimer W. and Helen V. (Swain) Chaplin.
Dick attended Westbrook schools and Maine Central Institute and was a graduate of Unity College. For many years he worked for Loring, Short and Harmons and Locks Office products until he retired.
Dick was a very caring and social man. He enjoyed his morning coffee with friends at McDonalds discussing local politics, trips to his favorite places, like Harvey’s bakery in Dover, NH, and the Northland in Berlin, NH all while riding around in his classic Chevy Malibu. He also enjoyed meticulously maintaining his lawn and being outdoors.
Dick’s kindness towards others and protection of those close to him will not soon be forgotten. He loved his family dearly and always made sure they were taken care of. Even though he and his twin sister Sally were born together he was always the big brother. Dick was a kind and gentle soul always willing to help those in need.
Dick is survived by his twin sister Sally Chaplin of Westbrook and two cousins, Brenda Good and Gail Gordon and several other extended family members.
At Dick’s request a private burial will be held at the convenience of his family.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Dick’s name to the American Cancer Society, One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
