Affectionally known by friends, family and loved ones as Becky, Becca and her proudest title, Nana Becky; She was born and raised in Westbrook to Milo Victor & Clara Mae Rockwell Tedford. Becky was one of seven children. She graduated from Westbrook High School in 1954. From a young age Becky was known as a hard worker. In high school she worked for Selma & Louis Bernstein. She also worked for S.D. Warren papermill and worked many years into her retirement at Shaw’s supermarket. While working at Shaw’s she met her husband Fred Morris Shaw and they were married in 1962.
Becky lived most of her life rooted in Maine but spent many years traveling with family and loved ones. She briefly resided in Zephyr Hills, FL, however returned to Maine to live out the duration of her life. In 2020 Becky moved into 75 State Street in Portland and was happily reunited with her childhood friend Emily.
Becky was a strong woman of faith and spent many years worshipping at South Portland Church of the Nazarene and Eight Corner’s Baptist Church in Scarborough. She enjoyed singing her praise, attending various community groups, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and going out to eat with her friends and family. She was proud of her 40 years of sobriety and supporting others through the AA program. She also very much enjoyed volunteering as a foster grandparent with the Pride’s Corner school in Westbrook and Reiche School in Portland.
The family would like to extend special recognition to Becky’s sister-in-law Doreen Gross for her years of lasting friendship. Special thank you as well to Becky’s Holmes Road neighbors and friends.
Becky is survived by her daughter Valerie Cartonio and husband Anthony, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Brock Toothaker, Michael & Julia Foster and their children Winnifred & Miriam, Tianna Cartonio & her children Harvest & Tucker Merchant and Billie Jo & Nick Castaldo & their son Brock. She is also survived by her siblings: Shirley Rankin, Fred Tedford, Marshall Tedford and Rachel Mondor.
Becky is predeceased by two of her children Camille and Sabrina, her husband Fred Shaw and siblings Lloyd Tedford & Mary Wallace.
Memorial Services will take place at 11am on Monday August 1, 2022 at Jones, Rich and Barnes funeral home located at 199 Woodfords Street, Portland Maine. Interment immediately following the memorial service at Brooklawn Cemetery located at 2002 Congress Street, Portland Maine. Please contact the funeral home directly for more details.
