Portland- Phyllis Mary DiMatteo Mazziotti, 89, former longtime resident of Sherwood Street in Portland, passed away on February 20, 2016 following a brief illness. She was born in Portland on April 27, 1926, a daughter of Antonio and Mary (Colucci) DiMatteo.
She married Domenic Mazziotti on June 16, 1946 and they began raising a family.
She was a stay at home mom until her children were in school, when she began working at Espan’s Lunch on Veranda Street and remained there for 35 years where she made many lifelong friends.
She enjoyed traveling with close friends, playing cards and spending time cooking for her family and friends.
She was pre-deceased by her parents; husband Domenic after 63 years of marriage, a son, Richard Michael Mazziotti in 1993; sisters, Anna Donatello and Adelaide Burke.
She is survived by a sister, Assunta (Suzanne) Fasulo; a son, Stephen D. Mazziotti, Sr. and his wife Kathy; daughter in law, Suzanne Levesque (David); grandchildren, Erica (Jason) Rasmusson, Deanna (John) Garza, Stephen D. Mazziotti, Jr., and his wife Vanessa, Darsha (Douglas) Peaslee, Devin Mazziotti and fiancé Ashlee Higgins; nine great-grandchildren, Douglass, Danica, Domenica and Donovan Peaslee, John Albert Jr, Aidan and David Garza, William and Nathan Rasmusson. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Maine Medical Center and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, February 25th at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Ave. Portland. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
