Paul Joseph White, loving husband to Katherine Siviski White for 52 yrs., wonderful father to Christian, and his wife, Andrea of Buxton, ME., Joseph White, of Cumberland, ME., Terryann Martin of Knoxville, TN., loving grandfather to Aliza White, Cameron White, Jordan Martin, loving brother to Daphney Fletcher and her husband, Ray of Greenland, N.H., Ernest White, of Waterville, ME., Joanne White, of Marlboro, MA., Maryann White, of Framingham, MA. Sally Butler, of Reading, MA., Herbert White, of Albion, ME., and pre-deceased sister Margaret Fahy of Waterville, ME., passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, October 20, 2015.
Born May 19, 1940 to Ernest and Mary MacIssac White, Paul was raised in Waterville, ME. graduating from Waterville High School in 1958. He was awarded a scholarship and attended Colby College earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962. Paul was a Colby Mule through and through. A walk on football player his junior year, as he had to forgo the early years to work to help pay for his education expenses. He was the first player from Maine chosen from all of New England to be awarded the unsung hero award from The Boston Tobacco Table. He later attended Boston University earning an MBA degree in 1964.
Paul moved his family to MA. and started his career at The National Shawmut Bank of Boston. He was later employed at Eaton & Howard, Massachusetts Mutual Insurance Co. as a Director of Investment Research and The Boston Company Institutional Investors as Senior Vice President. In 1980 Paul did what many native Mainers do; he moved his family back to Maine settling in Cumberland Center. Paul continued to work in the financial services industry working for Casco Northern Bank as a Senior Vice President and Senior Investment Officer. In 1985 until he retired in 1997, he served as Executive Vice President and partner at Gouws Capital Management.
Paul liked to think of himself as a simple man who lived a simple life. He was always calm when things were tough and he didn’t become too complacent when things were going well. He was the epitome of the American dream working for and earning everything he had in life. Paul touched many lives during his time on earth. He volunteered countless hours to a variety of organizations and charities; a few being Maine Medical Center, Catholic Charities, Osher Map Library and Colby College Athletics. He was always available to give advice to those he was close to and others who were just seeking out his expertise. He enjoyed spending time at his cottage on Frye Island, ME., being around his family, playing golf with family and friends, watching his favorite team, the Patriots, and most of all playing with his grand kids. He looked forward to going on his annual golfing trip with his friends to FL. Paul had an incredible sense of humor. He possessed the innate gift of having the ability to make those around him feel better. He will truly be missed by those who knew and loved him. Paul had a great love for all of his feline companions over the years.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a time visitation from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Holy Martyrs Church, 266 Foreside Rd. Falmouth. A private committal service will be held at St. Francis Cemetery in Waterville.
