Patricia “Pat” A. (Maguire) Kilbride, a vibrant and spirited 88-year-old, passed away surrounded by her loving family on August 17, 2024. Born in Portland, Maine, on May 29, 1936, Pat was a feisty, fierce, and fun-loving Irish matriarch who touched the hearts of everyone she met.
Pat was raised in Medford, Massachusetts, the oldest of four children. Pat was known as a spunky, smart outstanding athlete who excelled in softball and bowling. She was always the first pick for every team!
Affectionately known as “Mum,” “Momma”, “GG,” “Pat,” “Big sister”, or “Auntie”, Pat’s life was defined by her unwavering devotion to her family. She worked at “Patches Variety”, a local neighborhood store, when her children were young, then for the Portland School Department for 27 years, proudly carrying students with disabilities, fondly called “Mother Hen” by her coworkers, and a mother of six who became “Ma Kilbride” to all of her children’s friends. Her warmth, humor, love, kindness, and sparkling Irish eyes endeared her to all.
Pat lived life to the fullest, with her family always at the center. She cherished vacations in Rangeley with her daughter Linda and her family, fishing, her morning coffee and paper, and a cold Smithwick’s beer. Pat always had an unfinished puzzle on a table that brought laughter, joy and hours of loving memorable conversations with her family and friends.
Pat’s Irish pride shone brightest during St. Patrick’s Day, a day she celebrated proudly and loudly with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles Kilbride; an infant daughter Mary; her son, Joseph Kilbride; her sister, Mary Maguire; her parents, James and Marie (Lynch) Maguire; and her grandson, Patrick Conley.
Pat is survived by her brother, James Maguire, and his wife, Pat; her sister, Margaret “Peggy” Trembaly, and her husband, Edmund.
Her legacy continues through her children: AnnMarie Kilbride, Peggy Axelsen, Linda Reinholdtsen (Dave), James Kilbride (Debbie), and Jane Kilbride-Dupuis (Marc), as well as her grandchildren: Steve, Bryan, Rachel, Sean, Albert, Janessa, Nicole, Christopher, Corey, Amy, Delaney, Austin, Ryan, and Griffin. As well as 7 great grandchildren.
Patricia Kilbride’s joyful spirit and loving heart will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love, laughter, and Irish pride will forever be cherished by her family and friends. May she rest in peace, reunited with all of her loving angels.
A private family burial will be held to honor the lives of our loving mother, Patricia Ann Kilbride and
her beloved son and our brother, Joseph Michael Kilbride. In keeping with their deep love for family
and each other, this intimate gathering will provide a moment of reflection, prayer, and togetherness,
surrounded by those who meant the most to them. As they are laid to rest together, their spirits will
continue to guide and watch over us, forever united in peace.
