

Scarborough - Patricia Bushnell Becker, 81, died February 6, 2012 at Piper Shores. Born July 12, 1930 in Evanston, Illinois she was the daughter of the late Caroline Franklin Bushnell and Robert Ingham Bushnell, Pat also lived in Glenwood Landing, Long Island, New York. She attended Marblehead High School in Marblehead, MA graduating in 1948. Pat attended Boston University, and then worked at the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital at Dartmouth College. She later worked for American Airlines at the Statler Hotel in New York City. Pat married William G. Becker, Jr. on July 31, 1961. They lived in New York City, Northern New Jersey and settled in Harding Township, New Jersey where they lived for more than 30 years. Devoted mother and volunteer, Pat was a member of the Mountainside First Aid Squad, and a charter member of the New Vernon Volunteer First Aid Squad starting in 1974. She rejoined the Squad in 2000 as a driver. She was a Harding Township Library Volunteer and a member of the New Vernon Fire Department Auxiliary. Class Mother of many of her children’s school classes, Pat taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon, Usher and Church Council Member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Morris Plains, New Jersey. She also served on the Alter Guild at Somerset Hills Lutheran Church in Basking Ridge, NJ, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook, Me. Pat was elected to the Board of Directors at Crane’s Mill Retirement Community in West Caldwell, New Jersey. Pat moved to Maine in 2004 to be close to her children and grandchildren. She was a volunteer driver and member of the Resident’s Council at Piper Shores. After moving to Maine, Pat gave much of her time to VIPs (Volunteers in Police Service) in Scarborough, where she staffed events, directed traffic and supported the Scarborough Police Department. Pat enjoyed traveling to many places around the world, and caring for her many dogs that she loved over the years. She celebrated her 80th birthday in New York City with family and dear friends. Pat is survived by her husband , two sons; William G. Becker III and his wife Elizabeth of Portland, and Robert F. Becker of Bath, 4 grandchildren; Caitlyn E. Becker and Patrick W. Becker of Portland, and Brook Mitchell and Isaac R. Becker of Bath. The family would also like to thank Kathy Allen, Pat’s personal caregiver for more than a year, and to the staff at Home Instead, Piper Shores and Beacon Hospice.
Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation Monday February 13, 2012 from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland.
Memorial funeral services will follow at 11a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Karen Indorf officiating.
