Portland---Nancy L. McGovern, 79, passed away peacefully at home on Friday morning, October 25, 2024.
Nancy met the love of her life, Terry, while at camp on Little Sebago Lake.
Nancy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as her many dogs over the years.
Nancy grew up in the Prides Corner section of Westbrook, attending Westbrook schools, and graduating from Westbrook High School, Class of 1963. She played clarinet in the high school band.
Nancy was employed by Union Mutual, Liberty Mutual, and the Foundation for Blood Research. She also enjoyed spending time at their lake house, sitting on the deck in the sunshine, looking out over the lake, listening to the Loons, and watching the Bald Eagles fly overhead.
She also enjoyed having her children and family up to camp for cookouts at the lake.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Terry McGovern, daughter Sandy Barlow and her husband Brian, son Mike McGovern and his wife Jill, and Tim McGovern, nine grandchildren: Britt and her husband Devon, Storm and his wife Haley, Aaron, Jenna, Stone, Will, Drew, David, Victoria, four great grandchildren: Reese, Cole, Storm, and Sunny. She is also survived by her brother Fred Russell and his wife Barb, sisters-in-law Nancy Harris, Jeannie Forgues and her husband Ron, Judy McGovern, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dogs Cookie and Sweet Pea.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Claris Hawkes Russell, her parents-in-law Richard and Dorothy McGovern, and brothers-in-law Bob McGovern and Dick Harris.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 pm on November 6, 2024 at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland, where a funeral will be held at 11 am on November 7, 2024. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland.
