Nancy Clapp Johnson

Nancy Clapp Johnson ‘Gigi’, 80, of Naples, Maine, formerly of Holliston, Massachusetts was released from pain and passed away peacefully January 23, 2022 with her daughter NancyLynn by her side. She was married to Richard S. Johnson who passed on their 52nd wedding anniversary in 2014.

Nancy was born May 8, 1941 in Hartford Ct, the daughter of Frank and Ethel Haling Clapp.

Nancy often spoke fondly of her grandparents Frank and Ethel Clapp and the many summers she spent with them at Lake Hayward in Connecticut.

Nancy and her husband Richard were the original owners and operators of J & J Commercial Services which they ran successfully in Holliston Massachusetts for 25 years before they retired to Maine.

Nancy’s greatest joy was riding the beautiful winding roads of New England with her husband on their Harley Davidson Dresser, which they lovingly referred to as the Black Swan. The Black Swan won countless Best of Show awards and was the centerfold in American Iron Magazine in August, 1992. Nancy was a sight in black leather and fringe – slim, smiling and sexy at 50+ years old. She really was a hot ticket!!

Nancy delighted in the simple offerings of nature, the sound of birds, the beauty of deer the grace of a flower bloom. She took great pride in the gardens she created both in Holliston and at her home in Maine. She would spend hours poring over flower and bulb catalogs looking for just the right color, height and bloom time combinations. The last few years she was unable to do any planting, but that didn’t stop her from ordering hundreds of flowers/bulbs for her daughter to plant – oh and she gave clear direction from the deck about exactly how deep and where to plant them, too! NancyLynn might have been swearing a little under her breath while taking the directions!

Nancy was kind, generous and loving. She was always concerned for those that ‘didn’t fit in’, often telling her daughter, a teacher, ‘keep an eye on the quiet ones that are left out – they need you more. Hug them often.’ She would drive around with a cooler in the car in the summer and hand out cold soda and water to workers and police officers she passed in her travels. She was known to swing through Dunks to pick up hot coffee for officers out in the cold directing traffic.

She wasn’t always all sweetness. She told it like it was, even if you didn’t want to hear it. You could only wallow about something for so long before you got the ‘pull up your boot straps and get yourself together’ talk. She was highly competitive and regularly kicked NancyLynn’s ass playing scrabble. In her younger days she did silhouette shooting and she and Richard would regularly place first and second. She was not a woman to be messed with!

Nancy is survived by her loving daughter NancyLynn J. Lysik and her husband John of Hollis, New Hampshire and their two children Jacob and Jocelyn. Somewhere in the world, Florida perhaps, is her son Richard F. Johnson and his family.
