Maxwell Lubin Byer, 27, of Jersey City, New Jersey, passed away on May 31, 2023. Maxwell’s cause of death was aggressive metastatic rectal cancer against which he fought valiantly. Max is survived by his parents Leah Beth Byer and Stuart Farmelant and Michael and Laura Byer; his sisters Olivia Segal, Shayna Farmelant, and Lucy Byer, his brother-in-law Noah Segal; his maternal grandfather, Matthew Goldfarb, his paternal grandmother, Hope Byer; and many loving members of his extended family. Max was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Lynn Goldfarb, and his paternal grandfather, Charles Byer. It was family and those friends whom he considered family that mattered most to Max.
Max graduated from Green Acres School and The McLean School both in Maryland and from Brandeis University in Massachusetts. During college, he spent a semester at King’s College in London and traveled throughout Europe extensively. Max was a member of the B’nai Brith Youth Organization (BBYO) and President of its Lantos AZA Chapter in Rockville, MD, and a member of AEPi Fraternity. Max worked for Taboola, Mulesoft, a division of Salesforce, and Exit Plan Capital. Max volunteered with children in Boston hospitals and with the Riverdale chapter of BBYO.
A passionate sports fan, Max could converse intelligently for hours about any sport with his favorite teams being the Tottenham Hotspurs, the New England Patriots, and the Washington Capitals. Max loved data whether it related to investments, how to run a business, which trades a sports team should make, or the hours upon hours he spent researching his own cancer treatment, trials, and integrative therapies. Max also spent countless hours investigating his diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder and was an enormous advocate to erase the stigma surrounding the disorder, especially for young men. However, Max was always most excited to attend family events and consistently made time for his friends whether it was to help with school work, provide business or relationship advice, or lend a shoulder on which to lean.
The funeral will take place on Monday, June 5th at 11 am ET at Temple Beth El in Portland, Maine, with Livestream access available at: https://www.youtube.com/templebethelportland.
Immediately afterwards, Maxwell will be laid to rest at the Temple Beth El Memorial Park in Portland.
