Most people knew Mary as Lorraine, as she would go by her middle name. She had several jobs but her passion was being a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studio. She loved teaching children.
People will remember Lorraine most for her years she worked as a waitress at George’s Delicatessen in Portland. She loved her customers and they loved her. I remember walking with Gram and people would come up many years later and ask if she worked at George’s. They would talk about it for hours.
In her senior years Lorraine loved watching her grandchildren and neighbors' kids. Everyone loved going to their MiMi's house where she would have homemade pancakes and hot chocolate waiting for them. It was always so warm and cozy. You felt her love.
Lorraine’s son Eugene Teare Jr. passed away November 11, 2019. Because of COVID she could not see or say goodbye to uncle Gene. She was devastated.
Lorraine’s daughter Betty (Teare) Waddington was amazing as amazing can be. My mom and gram traveled everywhere, went places and just enjoyed life. Gram called my mother her angel and she most certainly was.
My grandmother never missed an event, birthday, dates etc. She used to send my mom out to get a card or gift for that someone special or just because. Every year on our birthday she would leave a voicemail singing Happy Birthday. That song will certainly be missed.
Lorraine is predeceased by her parents. Two brothers Harold and Walter. Her sisters Marguerite, Pat and Ramona. Her beloved husband Eugene Teare Sr. and her son Eugene Teare Jr.
Lorraine is survived by her sister Priscilla Irving and sister Joan.
Her “amazing angel” Betty (Teare) Waddington. Her daughter in law Carol Brady along with Carol’s 4 children. A grandson Eugene Teare III. Twin grandchildren Jason Waddington and Donna (Waddington) Morong. Grandson in law Robert Morong Jr. who she loved deeply. Bobby would always make sure she had everything she needed to make her life easier. Gram and Bobby were crowned king and queen at my grandmother’s prom.
Lorraine also has 4 great grandchildren. Heather Locke husband Brian, Corey Morong wife Amanda, Robbie Morong fiancé Lyndsey and Kendall Morong husband Kris King.
Along with 9 great great grandchildren with a 10th that will be here in February. Hunter Locke, Madison Locke, Jordyn Morong, Dallas Morong, Theodore (Teddy) Morong, Grace Morong, Maverick Morong, Makenna King and Savannah King.
The proudest moment in our family was representing 5 generations for years. When we were all together people would come up to us and say how lucky we were. We certainly were lucky. We had a fierce, hardworking, lovable leader.
We will be having a small gathering Friday September 17, 2021 at Brooklawn Memorial Park at 10am.
In honor of gram we are asking that you wear a fancy hat or a baseball cap. Back in the day it was customary to wear fancy hats. My grandmother had beautiful ones. In Gram's senior years she loved baseball caps. No matter where anyone traveled, she brought her baseball hat.
