Mary (Marion) Clark, 99, of Liza Harmon Drive died on Tuesday December 20, 2011 at Seaside Nursing Home in Portland. She was born on August 9, 1912 in South Portland a daughter of the late Amedio and Jenny (Puzzutti) Catruch. The family moved to Portland when Mary was a child, and she attended Portland Schools . She worked at Burnham & Morrill, where she met her husband, Malcolm MacDonald Clark. They were married on April 27, 1931. She then worked at the Maine General Hospital, now known as Maine Medical Center, in the diet kitchen. She worked for a short while at the Westbrook Star Laundry until her daughter Juanita was born. When her husband was fighting in World War II in Europe, she worked at S. D. Warren paper mill (now Sappi) in Westbrook in the sorting room. When Malcolm returned home from the war, Mary became a stay at home mother. Mary, Malcolm and Juanita then settled on Forest Street in Westbrook. After Juanita was in high school, Mary worked for the Westbrook School Department until the death of her husband on August 17, 1971. Mary went brook fishing for many years. In 1963, Mary and her husband drove to California and back. While in California visited with Malcolm's aunt, sister, and brother. They also visited the Redwood Forest in California and on the way home stopped at Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. Mary and Malcolm went again in 1966, this time driving his aunt and uncle from Canada to visit the same relatives as before and also going into San Francisco. Mary was glad they had the chance to go on those trips, as they were the final big trips they made. Mary enjoyed working in the vegetable garden every year and also spent a lot of time in her flower gardens, even though at times it was hard work. Mary loved crocheting, making doilies and table cloths. Mary was a member of the former Westbrook United Methodist Church, and a 60+ year member of Mizpah Chapter of Eastern Star. She moved to Liza Harmon Drive in 2004. She drove her own car until 2007.
Besides her husband, Mary was predeceased by her brothers: Arnold, Paul, Salvatore, and Augustine Catruch, a sister Joyce Rowe, and nephews Stephen Rowe, and Robert Kirk, brothers in law Stillman Rowe Jr., Boyd Winchester, and LaForrest Kirk, a sister-in- law Delia Catruch.
Mary is survived by her daughter Juanita May Watson and her husband John E. Sr of Westbrook, a grandson John E. Watson, Jr of Biddeford, sisters: Angelina Winchester of Westbrook and Elvira Kirk of Westbrook, and a very special sister-in-law Annella Catruch of Casco, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a time of Visitation from 6-8 pm Friday, December 23, 2011 at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland where a Funeral Service will be held 10 am Saturday, December 24. Interment will follow at Forest City, South Portland.
