Martha (Marty) was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 7th, 1925, the second child of Martha Elizabeth (Kemeny) & Andrew Vargha. She had fond memories of growing up in Detroit but the highlight of her childhood was a three-year period spent abroad in Weisbaden, Germany, when her father worked for Opel automobile company. She was a graduate of Redford High School and Michigan State College.
Marty met her future husband, Homer Wayne Rogers, in the 8th grade and they went on to marry in 1947. Together they raised their 3 daughters as they moved their family around the country - spending many wonderful years in Oregon, Michigan, and New Jersey. Upon retirement they enjoyed extensive traveling often planning routes to visit family and friends along the way. After many years living in both North Carolina & Arizona they moved in 2006 to the Woods at Canco in Portland, Maine to be closer to family.
Martha leaves behind her husband of 66 years, three daughters & sons-in-law - Susan and Joseph Cook of Westbrook; Carol & Allen Gauper of Spokane, Washington; Janet & David Chodos of Brighton, Michigan; beloved grandchildren, Lindsey & Alex Gauper of Spokane, Washington; Michael Chodos of Baltimore, Maryland; William Chodos & Ben Chodos of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Meghan Jones of Beaverton, Oregon. She will also be missed by her brother, Louis Vargha & wife, Maité, of La Rode, Ussac, France and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, and her older sister, Frances Schoomaker.
Her family wants to thank the staffs of Scarborough Terrace, Barron Center, MMC and Gosnell House for their caring attention to Martha's needs over the past 3 years.
