Falmouth, ME -- Mark Alan Benjamin of Falmouth passed away on May 12, 2015 after a tenacious battle against the cruel Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease. Mark never gave up hope, and became a lasting inspiration for many people.
Mark was an accomplished drummer who had an affinity for Led Zeppelin and drummer John Henry Bonham. He worked in the food service industry up and down the east coast from Maine to Florida. And anyone who had chocolate was his friend.
People saw in Mark a life force, a zest for living, a hope for the future, and a wonderful sense of humor, all which never faltered even with the advancing ALS. Most telling of all, Mark never complained, but rather conveyed concerns for people with far less problems than he. Mark's content of character will be missed but not forgotten.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to Falmouth by the Sea. Mark was grateful for the excellent care and repeatedly expressed his appreciation for the professionalism of the staff.
Mark is survived by his mother Elma Benjamin of Falmouth, sisters Dorothy Oliver of Chelmsford MA and Mary Louis Benjamin of Henderson NV, and brother Kevin Benjamin of South Portland. He also leaves three nieces, Nicole and Brynn Oliver of Chelmsford MA, and Jennifer Benjamin of South Portland as well as two nephews, Winston Oliver of Chelmsford MA, and Andrew Benjamin of South Portland.
