Marilyn C. (Haley) Rickett

She was born June 25, 1928, to Carroll Haley and Evelyn (Hall) Haley. The family resided in Fryeburg, Maine. After graduating from Fryeburg Academy, she moved to Portland.  There she worked as a bookkeeper for H.P. Hood and then The Surplus Store, before retiring.

She was predeceased by her parents, 3 siblings, her husband Thomas Rickett Sr., and a grandson.

Then Marilyn opened her home to many foster children, who called her Mimi.  She adopted two of them as her own; Christopher and Jessica Rickett.  In 2018, the city of Portland presented Marilyn with a key to the city in recognition of her 90th birthday and for caring for more than 60 foster children.  Marilyn loved knitting and could often be found working on hats, mittens and sweaters for her family and friends.

In addition to her 8 children, she is survived by 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

Per Marilyn’s wishes, there will be no services. Interment will be in the spring at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
