Portland- Louise P. Kenny, 86, of Scarborough Terrace, passed away on Wednesday July 2, 2014. The daughter and only child of John S, and Jensine (Christensen) Pratt, she was born at the Maine Eye and Ear Infirmary in Portland on February 21, 1928. She attended Portland schools and graduated from Deering High School in 1945. After graduation she earned her associates degree from Shaw Business College. On September 11, 1954 she married Warren W. Kenny during Hurricane Edna. He passed away on June 22, 1996. She worked at the Braddish Young Insurance Agency until her son’s birth. She returned to the workforce, when he was in Middle School, as a teacher’s aide in the Portland Public School System from where she retired in 1986. From the age of six months, until she moved to Scarborough Terrance last, year she lived in the same house on Hillis St. in Portland. She adjusted well from a house full of treasures, accumulated over a lifetime, to a single room (crammed with many of those treasures). She quickly began taking part in Scarborough Terrace’s activities; often being the first to sign up for outings or make suggestions for entertainment. She had a passion for stenciling, painting, knitting, crocheting, and sewing; making many of the family’s clothes. She truly enjoyed attending sporting and other memorable events that her grandchildren were involved in. Louise loved Scottish Terriers and had one named Muffy when her grandchildren were young. She affectionately became known as “Grammy Muffy”. She enjoyed spending summers at the family camp on Little Sebago Lake, which she and Warren started to build in 1955. Many winters were enjoyed by Louise in Florida with Warren and then, in later years, with her companion, Richard Breiding, who passed away this past May. It was truly a pleasure for her family to see the joy two friends could bring to each other after the loss of their spouses. Louise is survived by her son Gary A. Kenny and his wife Cindy, of Wayne; her grandson Andrew Kenny and his wife Julie, of Bath; her granddaughter Hannah Dumas and her husband Kevin, of Brookline, MA; and great-grandson Todd Kenny. Her family would like to express its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Leslie Gordon and the nursing staff at Maine Medical Center. Their care and compassion made her last hours gracious. A memorial service will be held on Monday July 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A reception will follow at the funeral home followed by a graveside service at Moss Side Cemetery in Cumberland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Louise’s memory to the Stevens Avenue Congregational Church, 790 Stevens Ave, Portland ME 04103.
