Laurence Allan Roe

Laurence A. “Larry” Roe, age 76 of Brownfield, Me and Port Charlotte, FL., died peacefully on Tuesday February 23, 2016 while on winter vacation in Port Charlotte, FL.

He was born in Haverhill, Mass on July 8, 1939 the son of Allan and Marjorie Balfour Roe where he attended local schools graduating from Haverhill High School, and then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard serving in Vietnam, Owls Head, Me, Boston and South Portland after 21 years of service Larry retired in 1980. He went on from his service to have more careers and retirements including; Cumberland Farms, Gulf Oil, MSRC, Fleet Environmental, Fore River Dock and Dredge and finally retiring from General Construction. He enjoyed his 50 years with the people and places on the Portland Waterfront.

Larry was loved by many people and enjoyed life to its fullest. He and Camie spent more time on the road and visiting new places in the last 5 years than most do in a lifetime. His 3 grandchildren, Alexia, Kaitlyn and Elijah, were his world and he had a special connection with all of them. Grampie, as they called him, would do anything for them from attending baseball and basketball games for Elijah, planning a college visit road trip for Kaitlyn to walking around Disney in 30 degree temperatures with Alexia and everything in between. They knew no matter the event he would be there cheering them on, encouraging and supporting them. They knew he was the one to go to for any task, big or small, as he would accomplish it and then some.

His second home or “camp” (Brownfield, Maine) as it was called by everyone is a place that will forever hold so many memories, for not only the grandchildren but friends and family as well. This was the place where Christmas parties, birthday parties, and every holiday in between was celebrated and a place to enjoy on weekends and vacations. He was truly the heart of this place, and everywhere else he stayed and lived.

He would attend every sporting event that he could. He would always be in the stands with a smile on his face because he loved watching his grandchildren compete. He would always wait outside the locker room so he could give them a hug and talk for a few minutes about the game and ask how they were doing. He had an endless amount of stories because he did so much in his life and he was always telling new stories. They loved him so much and he was the best Grampie that anyone could ask for. He also was a devoted partner, father and grandfather.

Besides his parents he is predeceased by his wife Patricia Shuman Roe in 2004.

Larry is survived by his life partner Camilla “Camie” Burns, his daughter, Dawn Christy, Son-in-law Kevin and their grandchildren; Alexia, Kaitlyn, Melissa and Heather, a Son Gary Roe, daughter-in-law Jennifer Williams and grandsons; Elijah, Jordan, and Griffin, Brother-in-law, Dick Shuman, niece, Heather and nephew Michael and special bonus family Roxanne and Peter Thomas, Terry Stauber and their children.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation from 10AM to 1PM on Saturday March 5, 2016 at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street where a funeral service will be held at 1PM with US Coast Guard Honors.
