Ken was born in Portland, ME on April 6, 1935; the son of the late Ellery and Emma (Grover) Haynes. He attended local schools and for many years worked as a
carpenter and millwright for the New England Carpenters Union.
Ken enjoyed the outdoors. He was often seen out riding his bike. When he was no longer able to ride his bike, he purchased a scooter. He loved being busy. He enjoyed caring for the lawns of his neighbors and family in the summer and snow blowing in the winter, until he became too ill to continue.
He enjoyed playing the lottery, trips to the beaches, eating out and spending time with family. He especially enjoyed eating and spending time at the Q Street Diner in South Portland.
Ken was a quiet, gentle, loving father, grandfather, and uncle that will be dearly missed.
Predeceasing Ken are his parents; brothers, Raymond and Leroy Haynes, and a sister Loretta.
Surviving are his four children; Patricia Santamore and her husband Sidney of Westbrook, Steven Haynes of Gray, Monica Thistlewood and her husband Brian of Lewiston, and Dennis Haynes of Biddeford, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is a sister-in-law Christine “Tina” Haynes and her family of So. Portland whom he lived with for over 30 years.
A period of visitation for Ken will be held this Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 11 AM to 1 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St.Portland. Burial will take place at the Gray Village Cemetery in the spring.
The Haynes family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr.’s Ketchum, Katz, and their staff, along with the Hospice of Southern Maine and Androscoggin Home Healthcare for their loving care of Ken. In lieu of flowers the Haynes family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
Care for Ken and his family has been entrusted to the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home of Portland.
