Portland – Kenneth A. Cheney 79, proud father of five, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Manor November 3, 2017, surrounded by his loving kids. Kenneth was born in Fort Fairfield on November 16, 1937, the son of Cecil L. and Clair L. (Whitmore) Cheney.
Kenneth worked in the restaurant business all of his adult life, eventually finding his career working at The Cumberland Club for nearly 30 years, until he retired at the age of 70.
When Kenneth wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending his time fishing, camping, dancing, and countless hours with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. One thing Kenneth was very proud of was being part of The AA community and family for 29 years.
Kenneth is survived by his children, Arnold Cheney of Limestone, Alan Cheney and wife Pamela of Readfield, David Cheney and his wife Brenda of Windham and Christine Cheney of Westbrook; his grandchildren, Chalmers III, Leah, David Jr., Miranda, Michelle, Jamie, Nathan, Chelsea and William; his great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Chalmers IV, Caleb, Lydia, Arianna, Logan, Elizabeth, Areella and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was predeceased by his daughter Linda Russell.
Upon Kenneth’s request, he will be having a private graveside service at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland at a later date.
