He was born in Portland, ME. on December 29, 1946, to Linwood and Joan D'Arc (Ayotte) Loring. Jon attended Lewiston schools and excelled at football. He graduated from Lewiston High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served in Vietnam where he earned several medals including the Purple Heart. Jon enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, boating, tying flies and collecting guns.
In 1980, he graduated from The State of Maine Police Academy and started his career in law enforcement with the Mechanic Falls Police Department. He later became the chief of police until his retirement.
Jon was known in the hockey community and was his grand children's biggest supporter always cheering them on from the sidelines. He was a kind soul and would help anyone.
Preceding him in death is his parents, his wife of 33+ years, Kristen (Curtis), his sister, Cindy Hewey and granddaughter, Olyvia Hickman.
Left to cherish his memory is is daughters, Samantha Kearns, and her husband, Kevin of Groton, CT, Heidi Hickman and her partner, Willie Moss of Pittsfield, ME., Kara Younk and her partner, Ralph Belmont of Leeds, ME., son, Bryan Younk and wife, Wendy of Auburn, ME., sisters, Kathy Brady and husband, Malcolm of Newport News, VA., Linda Smith of St. Paul, MN., Anita Loring of Oxford, ME., grandchildren, Alex Kearns of Groton, CT., Patrick Kearns and partner Jayna Haskins of Groton, CT., Amanda Burgess and her husband, Jared of Goldsboro, NC., Khaari Hickman of Waterville, ME., Derrion Hickman and his partner, Taneyea Gagne of Belgrade, ME., Kaylee Younk and partner, Leya Harvey of Mechanic Falls, ME., Mason White of Leeds, ME., Sara Younk of Auburn, ME., and Cora Younk and partner, Will Tatge of Auburn, ME., great grandchildren, Connor, Liam and McKenna Burgess of Goldsboro, NC., 3 soon to be born great-grandchildren; Oliver and Charlotte Kearns of Groton, CT., and Forest Hickman of Belgrade, ME., several cousins, nieces, nephews, and he also leaves behind his beloved puppy "Ginny".
A Celebration of Jon's life will be held at the American Legion in Mechanic Falls on Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. A private committal will be held at The State of Maine Veteran's Cemetery in Augusta, at a later time.
Jon’s love of nature was passed on too many around him through the years so we ask that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to pass that gift on to others make memorial donations in Jon's name to University of Maine 4-H Camp and Learning Center, 17 Conservation School Rd. Bryant Pond, Me. 04219 in hopes that his love of the outdoors may be instilled in another.
