He was born in Portland, Maine, May 20th, 1955, the first child of V. Diane Howell and John J. “Jack” Howell. He attended Scarborough and Portland schools, excelled in football in high school, and received his GED. John was a highly intelligent young man, he even received a scholarship to MIT for Electronic Engineering. John began traveling at an early age and was known as a very free spirit. He loved music and followed local bands, sometimes joining them on stage for impromptu jam sessions. As he got older, he found his faith in God and became involved in Christian music bands and production. He was well known for his friendly, outgoing spirit and had many friends in Portland and throughout Maine.
While dealing with many personal adversities, John found his sobriety in 2013, an accomplishment that he was truly proud of. “Clean and serene” as John would say. He was involved in AA and Narcotics Anonymous, and spent his time helping others to achieve the same.
John was predeceased by his mother V. Diane Howell of Portland, father, John J. Howell (“Captain Jack”) of Nova Scotia, and his son, Jason M. Howell of Portland. He is survived by his children: Heather Howell and her fiancé Sadiq Majeed of Portland, Stephanie Howell Seavey of Standish, her boyfriend Fran Nuite of Clinton, Justin Duchesne and his fiancé Katrina Angelone of Auburn, Felicia Tenney of Henderson Nevada, and Brian Perry of New Hampshire.
