She was born in Portland, the daughter of Francis R. and Mildred M. McCafferty. She graduated from Deering High School in 1967 and worked for Shaw’s Coorporate Office. She moved to Bath and worked as the Assistant Deputy Finance Director for many years. In 1988 she moved to Rumford and worked for the Town of Mexico.
Anyone who knew Joanne would agree that she loved to be outdoors tending to her flower beds. Visitors were greeted with open arms, coming into her home feeling welcomed and cozy with homemade food and décor of the current season. Joanne not only gardened but loved to crochet, knit, craft and can. She was extremely proud of her Finnish heritage, researching the culture, customs, and foods of her ancestors. Something you would hear Joanne say often and something that she lived by was “sisu.”
She is survived by her son Dan Lounsbury of Florida and his children, Thomas, Nic, and Lily; a daughter, Jamie, of Bath, and her children, Alyssa and Casey, as well as 2 sisters, Lisa and Christina; also several nieces and nephews, along with her sister-in-law, Linda McCafferty. She was predeceases by her brother Bruce McCafferty of Old Orchard Beach, and her parents.
