Falmouth - Jean Russell Wilson, 95, passed away on April 24, 2021 at the Maine Veterans Home after a brief illness. He was born in Portland on May 19, 1925, the son of Lawrence and Hazel Roberts Wilson. He attended Deering High School, graduating in 1943.
Jean served in WWII in the Army in the European theater, and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
In 1951, he married Angela DiMatteo, in Portland, where they lived and raised their four children. Jean worked as a bricklayer and in his later years, Clerk of the Works for a local Architectural Firm. He was a Eucharistic minister for many years at St Joseph’s Church.
Jean was devoted to his wife and family. Jean and Angie were always together and enjoyed time with extended family at Thanksgiving, and the Fourth of July and big birthday parties in May. He was devoted to his children and most especially his grandchildren, Benjamin Wilson and Natalie Gould, and great grandchildren, Angela (who was born on his birthday) and Kayla.
Jean loved spending summers at the family 'camp' on Highland lake, and in later years wintering in Arizona. He was quite an accomplished golfer and loved golfing in Arizona and Maine. He loved watching Ben play baseball and playing Bingo with Angie at St Pious. In his younger years, he loved camping with the family, fishing and boating.
Jean was predeceased by his loving wife Angela, his father; Lawrence Wilson and his wife Margaret, and his mother Hazel and her husband Leroy Dorr, his brother Robert and beloved son, Peter Wilson.
He is survived by his daughters, Jeannine Wilson, and her husband David Marshall of Old Orchard Beach; Diana Wilson, and her spouse Kathy Neddeau and their son Benjamin Wilson of Falmouth; Kathleen Wilson, and her partner Gene Cote of Saco; her granddaughter, Natalie Gould, her husband Chris, and their children Angela and Kayla Gould of Berwick; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service with military honors will be held on Friday April 30th, 2021. Interment will take place in Forest City Cemetery, South Portland Maine.
