He was born on November 26, 1963 in Stamford, CT, son of Suzanne Salomon and Robert S. Salomon, Jr. Jamie grew up in New Canaan, CT, graduated from St. Luke’s School, class of 1982, and earned a B.F.A. in photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 1986.
He married the love of his life, Susan Matulonis, on May 27, 1989 and, after an adventurous honeymoon road trip around the United States, moved to Portland, Maine. Together they raised their two children, Sophie and Ben. Jamie dedicated over 30 years to his career as an architectural photographer. Clients included interior designers, architects, ad agencies, commercial clients, and catalog companies. He had a truly unique style, keen eye, and brought a beautiful sensitivity of light to his images. Widely published, his work appeared in a variety of national and regional publications.
Jamie had many interests and was curious by nature. He was an avid fly fisherman, loved to forage for mushrooms, often selling them to local restaurants, and was passionate about cooking. He was very knowledgeable about the stock market and investing, and loved to drive his VW Golf R - fast! Jamie spent the winters teaching ski lessons at Mt. Abram, a local mountain community he loved being a part of, cooking many delicious stews and fresh pasta dishes for his family, and cuddling with his dog, Olive. In the summers he loved swimming at the lake with family and friends, and grilling and smoking all different kinds of meats. He had a real passion for nature and was incredibly knowledgeable about the Maine woods and waters.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Salomon, his daughter, Sophie Salomon and her husband Andrew Schoene, and his son Ben Salomon; his mother, Suzanne Salomon; his father, Robert S. Salomon, Jr. and his wife Deborah; his brother Robin Salomon and his wife Sarah; and his sister, Debbie Smith; and many family and friends.
At Jamie’s request, there will be no public memorial service.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Northern Light Mercy Hospital and Hospice of Southern Maine for all their support and compassionate care.
Jamie will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
