James Maurice Rosebush, age 91, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. James was born in Bancroft, ME on January 29, 1920, the son of William and Melvina (Caron) Rosebush. James grew up in McAdam, New Brunswick and Brownville Junction, Maine. He graduated from Brownville Junction High School in1938. In the early 1940’s, James worked as a welder in the South Portland shipyards. He joined the Navy in 1942 and saw action in several battles in the South Pacific. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Portland where he began working for the Maine Central Railroad. In 1947 he married Margaret Cambridge and they moved to Brownville Junction, ME where he worked as a fireman on the Canadian Pacific Railroad. In 1957James went to work for the Great Northern Paper Company in East Millinocket and retired in 1985.
James was an active member of numerous civic organizations and was past president of the American Legion. He was also Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for the Eastmil Federal Credit Union from 1969-1984. After his retirement from GNP, he divided his time between his homes in Portland and Stuart, Florida spending his summers at his camp on his beloved Ebeemee Pond in Maine.
Besides his parents, James was predeceased by wife, Margaret (Cambridge) Rosebush, his brothers, Dennis, Paul, Theo, Willard, Louis, Bernard, Arthur, and his sisters Olive and Madeline. His is survived by his sons, Dr. Craig Rosebush, of Citrus Heights, CA, and Dr. Mark Rosebush, of Roundup, MT. Also surviving are his five grandchildren, Michael Rosebush-Dicenzo, Andrea Rosebush-DiCenzo, Windy and her husband Michael Catino, Carey and her husband Will Doucette, and Sasha Rosebush. He is also survivedby three great grandchildren, Wiley Doucette, Seamus Doucette and MichaelCatino. Also surviving are his brother, Lawrence, of Bangor, ME and sister, Edith Alderman of Belchertown, MA, and his dear friend and companion, Marilyn Zwicker.
He enjoyed puttering around his workshop at his camp in Maine, was an avid reader, and took great pleasure in visiting family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Friday, September 16, 2011 from5:00-7:00 pm, at Jones, Rich, and Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St, Portland, ME. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am, at St. Pius Church, 492 Ocean Ave., Portland, ME. Interment will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery on Stevens Avenue in Portland.
