The Grim Reaper finally got James “Jimmy” Michael Dominic Patterson on June 9, 2023. Jimmy was born July 23, 1956, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Preceded in death by his parents William “Bill” A. Patterson and Sharon O’Connell Patterson, his brother and friend Jeff Patterson, and his dear friend and sister Rhoda Saldana. Jimmy is survived by sister Juliann (James) Blackston, nephew Nick (Dana) Wilson, great-nephews Wyatt and Oden, cousins Vera (Tim) Lund, Bryan Mayfield, Liam George, as well as several other cousins.
Jimmy graduated from Reynoldsburg High School in 1974, where he was otherwise known as, “Munch.” He moved to Los Angeles in 1980 where he felt he could be openly gay. He lived through his first pandemic; AIDS, losing over 300 friends. He moved to San Francisco in 1990 for eight years to care for his dear friend Rhoda. After returning to LA in 1998, he enjoyed life until his health took a turn in 2006. With the help of his high school classmates, Jimmy moved back to Ohio in 2010 to have better support with his heath struggles. He loved the snow, beach, and the fall! As a result, in 2021, he moved to Wells, Maine.
Jimmy was a happy man that had hundreds of friends across the county. He loved everyone he met and vice versa. Jimmy was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 34 years, and his AA family was dear to him. He didn’t know a stranger, in fact, his closest friends saw him as a weaver of friends, and they will always cherish one another because of that.
His favorite verse was Psalms 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Celebrations of Life will be held in Ohio, California, and Maine (October 14, 2023). Updated information will be available on the Facebook Group Page titled: Jimmy’s Journey.
