He was born in Machias, ME on October 13, 1937 the only son of the late George Mattheson and Priscilla (Cox) Mattheson of New Gloucester, ME. He grew up in Edmunds, ME, attending local area schools and graduated from Dennysville High School.
After high school he enlisted in the US Army, serving four years before returning home. He married Joanne on June 21, 1969.
After serving his country he became a driver for Burns Fencing in Westbrook and then for Scarborough Auto Glass before having to retire due to illness in 2000.
Although he was not a fan of the water, he enjoyed fishing as well as hunting.
Besides his mother and his wife he is survived by two daughters Stacy Brichetto of Portland and Michelle Mattheson of Raymond; four grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Brichetto of Portland and Sofia and Dominic Flemming of Raymond. He also leaves his Mother-in-Law Mary Marshall of Portland; a Sister-in-Law Lisa Egan of Portland, four Brother-in-Laws Brian Marshall and his wife Ruth of Derry, NH; Kenneth Marshall and Michael Marshall both of Portland and Robert Marshall and Robin Lakin of South Portland as well as several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to a time of gathering and celebration of George’s life on Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 3 -5 p.m. at the Wilde Memorial Chapel in Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Ave. Portland.
