Garnet M. Scott, 91 died Wednesday, February 20 at the Barron Center. He was born in Bridgewater, Maine, November 7, 1921 a son of William H. and Ethel Green Scott,graduating from Bridgewater Classical Academy. Mr. Scott had worker as a truck driver for Hemingway Transpotation for 29 years retiring in 1982. He then went to work as a bus driver for the Saco School Dept. He was a member of the Central Square Baptist Church now Deering Center Community Church, Deering Lodge #183, Scottish Rite Bodies of Portland, where he served on the robing crew, member of Deering Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, member of Kora Shrine Temple serving on the Facts and Figures Committee, member of Presumpscot Lodge of Odd Fellows, member of the Beersheba Encampment, member of the Rebekahs, former member of the Headlight Sams and a former advisor to the Rainbow Girls. Mr. Scott enjoyed being with his family whom he deeply loved, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren and also was an avid cribbage player. His wife Shirley Wilcox Scott died in 1997. He was also predeceased by a sister, Pearl Brown, 3 brothers, Elmer, Bert and Ralph Scott. He is survived by 2 sons, Robert H. Scott of Westbrook, Malcolm W. Scott of Buxton, 2 daughters, Judy A. LeVasseur of Westbrook and Edna M. Savage of Saco. Mr. Scott is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Cyndi Savage Glenn and her husband Frank, Jodi Nealey and her husband Russ, Jason Scott, Keith Savage and his wife Mindie, Tami Howard and her husband Jeremy, Heather Savage and her partner Bob, Jessica Agro and her husband Mike, Justin Scott and his partner Angela, Joshua Scott, and Sarah Scott and her partner Ken, 12 great grandchildren, Christopher Glenn and his wife Sarah, Scott Glenn, Shayne Nealey, Sami Nealey, Larissa Savage, Julianna Scott, Jack Howard, Gregory Savage III, Madison Blanchard, Joseph Howard, Geoffrey Savage and Trinity Scott. Relatives and friends may call at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St, Portland, Friday, 4-7 PM. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held Saturday at 11 AM from the Deering Center Community Church, Stevens Ave., Portland. The Rev. Donald Drake will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 51 Blossom St. Boston, Mass. 02114 or to the Alzheimer's Recreation Fund at BC2, C/O the Barron Center, 1145 Brighton Ave, Portland, Me. 04103. The family wishes to thank a special lady, Sybil Campbell whose care allowed Dad to stay at home before moving to the Barron Center. The family would also like to thank the staff at the Barron Center for their love and care of Dad during his final years, most especially the cna's and nurses who provided his direct care.
