Gabe was an extraordinarily gifted and fearless athlete and one of the gentlest spirits we knew. He attended Waynflete K-12 and lettered in three sports during his four high school years.
He hooked and lost the largest smallmouth bass that ever lived in Webb Lake. If Gabe was near water in any season, he was going to get wet. He loved to fish but it wasn’t always about the fishing. Every trip would become an adventure in which time would slip away. When to return home would become just a suggestion. He would be just as likely to catch a monster as he was to spend the entire day trying to catch 2” minnows.
Gabe was an avid collector and expert of coins, anvils, and a talented artist and photographer. Gabe remained young at heart through tremendous hardship. He was kind to animals and saw the best in others without judgement of flaws. He was extremely compassionate to his fellow travelers and believed in magic and treasure to the end.
Gabe is survived by his parents, Kristin Johnson and David Beam of Portland; brothers, Aaron Landry, wife Kris and sons Jackson and Cohen of Gorham, Matthew Beam and daughter Charlotte of Vero Beach FL, Ryan Beam, wife Leah Hayes of Woolwich.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Gabe’s birthday, April 30, 2025 at 1 pm in the Wilde Memorial Chapel in Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Ave, Portland.
