

Portland- Ernest “Ernie” Joseph LaBerge, 95, passed away on May 24, 2014. The son of Milton and Amanda (Borque) LaBerge, he was born in Portland, Maine on June 15, 1918. After completing his education, Ernie served in the 90th Infantry Division, also known as the “Tough Hombres”, as part of both the
4th and 16th armored divisions during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star as well as several other medals. Upon returning home from the service he worked as a mechanic at Hansen Chrysler Plymouth until his retirement. He married Evelyn Zemla LaBerge in June of 1952. He was a member of the Elks, the Emblem club, and the American Legion. He was predeceased by 5 siblings; his wife, Evelyn, his step daughter Phyllis McGarvey, a granddaughter, Kristine McGarvey, and a great granddaughter, Caroline Colson. He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Dorr and her husband Rod, of Claremont, New Hampshire; his son-in-law Wayne McGarvey of Portland, Maine, three granddaughters, April Livermore and her husband Glenn, of Newburyport, Massachusetts, Kathleen Megathlin of Cumberland, Maine, Kerry Colson and her husband Jon, of Portland, Maine, two grandsons Rodney Dorr Jr., of Claremont, New Hampshire, and Keane McGarvey and his wife Kelly of Portland, Maine, six great granddaughters Monika Rivard, Danielle Dorr, Elizabeth McGarvey, Hannah and Kaitlyn Megathlin, and Charlotte Colson; three great grandsons Reid and Braden Megathlin and Shamus Colson. A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014, at 1:00 pm at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St. Portland, Maine. Services are under the care of Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ernie’s memory to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program 100 Campus Dr. Scarborough, ME 04074.
