Emma Pelletier Mezzanotte passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. She was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on May 19, 1936, to Joseph August Pelletier and Simone Lafreniere Pelletier, the eldest of six children. She was preceded in death by all but one of her siblings.
Emma was a devoted mother to Robert Mezzanotte and Jodi Mezzanotte, mother-in-law to Pamela Mezzanotte and Mark St.Germain, and a cherished grandmother to Nathan Lemieux, Paige Maiato, and Nicholas Mezzanotte. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Theodore and Michael Maiato and an aunt to her nieces and nephews, whom she cherished after her sister’s passing 32 years ago.
A lifelong lover of books and a dedicated friend, Emma touched the lives of many with her kindness and generosity. After spending years at home raising her children, she embarked on a successful career at Nissen Employees Federal Credit Union, where she rose to become the credit union president, a position she held for over 20 years. Emma’s leadership extended beyond her profession, as she dedicated herself to volunteer work and community service.
Her true passion was fighting hunger, and she was instrumental in founding the Maine Credit Union’s Campaign for Ending Hunger, an initiative that continues to make a lasting impact today. Even after her retirement in 1998, Emma continued to serve others, volunteering for over 12 years at Southern Maine Medical Center, where she brought comfort and compassion to those in need.
Emma’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Windsor Two at Gorham House for their love and exceptional care during her final years. Their kindness, dedication, and compassion made all the difference, providing Emma with comfort and dignity in her journey.
A private family service and burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Emma’s memory may do so by making a donation to Maine Credit Union’s Campaign for Ending Hunger, PO Box 1236, Portland, Maine 04104, or online at www.campaignforendinghunger.org.
Emma’s legacy of kindness, service, and unwavering love for her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
