Eddie was born on February 18, 1952 in Lowell, Massachusetts to Albert J. Sousa and Ruth E. Sousa (Knight). He attended Westford Academy and Mount Wachusett Community College. On June 12, 1982 he married Catherine M. Sousa (McElman). Eddie was largely self-employed during his life and if there was a job that required two people, he found a way to make it a one-person job. He was the owner of a steel construction company, a deer farmer, a contractor, and most recently completely built his own dream home in Brooks. Eddie and Catherine had three children and in 1981, they bought a farm in Brooks where he raised his family showing them the best way to stack wood, how to garden, and to love and appreciate nature.
It is hard to describe the type of person that Eddie was. He was good at everything and if he wasn’t, he found a way to be. He was revered as the know it all of our family, constantly fielding distressed phone calls from a malfunctioning car on the side of the road, in the midst of a home improvement project, or when one of his kids just wanted to know what the right thing to do was. He loved his family and would do absolutely anything for them.
Eddie is survived by his beloved wife Catherine, his children Andrew Sousa of Brooks, Adam Sousa of Portland, and Alicia Sousa and her husband Justin Pellerin of Portland. He is survived by his siblings Donald and Judy Sousa of Hawaii, Richard Sousa of Norway, ME, David and Ruth Sousa of Calais, ME, Ruth Sousa Lantigua and Mel Lantigua of Arundel, and Robert and MaryAnn Sousa of Sanford. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who fondly remember their uncle Eddie, many lifelong friends who will miss his spirited nature, and community members who knew just how special he was.
A celebration of life will be held when congregating and hugging is appropriate.
The family would like to send our deepest thanks and gratitude to the Maine Medical Center staff, his providers at Dana Farber, and the wonderful Waldo County Hospital oncology team.
