Doris M. Blake, 91, of Portland passed away on April 14, 2016 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born in Eastport, ME the daughter of Patrick and Portia Quinn on October 13, 1924. She married John Blake on April 26, 1946. Doris was a loving mother and most enjoyed in life being a homemaker.
Doris is survived by son Fred Blake and wife Linda, daughter Sandra Brewer and husband John, and daughter Wanda Sanborn. She had five sisters and three brothers, five grandchildren, and several great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Doris loved elephants and butterflies. She had an elephant collection and butterfly decorations in her home. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles and reading romance novels and The Quoddy Tides. The one thing that never interfered with was her weekly trip to the hairdresser for a wash and set. Doris lived a simple life. She was a caretaker to many people and always put others before herself. Doris loved the ocean and took many rides along the coastline with Fred and Linda always stopping for her favorite food of lobster. Doris baked her beloved butter pies for the holidays and grilled red hot dogs when family visited. Doris was a fan of such country music stars as Kitty Wells and Hank Snow. Doris often amused family with down east sayings.
The family would like to invite friends to come and share their stories of Doris at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St, Portland on Monday April 25th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00am at Jones, Rich & Hutchins followed by a committal service at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
