Donna was raised in Portland and attended schools there. She had worked many jobs throughout her life including B&M Baked Beans in Portland. Mostly she spent her time being a homemaker, which she enjoyed the most.
She loved family get-togethers, gardening, and cooking, and had a special place in her heart for all animals, even, at one time, having a pet skunk. She enjoyed laughing, being goofy with her great-granddaughters, and going for ice cream (she had a real sweet tooth).
She had a very special bond with her youngest son, Benji, who is not only her son and friend, but also her caregiver for many years.
She was predeceased by her longtime partner Benjamin Leighton Sr, brothers Wayne and Frank Mello, Daughters Christine Dennison and Donette Leighton, and Daughter-in-law Renee Dennison.
She is survived by her children Arnold Dennison (Caroline), Tonya Dennison (Tom), Charles Dennison, Jr., And Benjamin Leighton, Jr. She is also survived by a large extended family. Including sister-in-law Donna Mello; Grandchildren Danielle Wing-Walker (Roy); David, Kristina (Larry), and Nicci Hamm; Erica Spalding (Josh); and Megan Mello. Great grandchildren Savannah, Luke, Adrian, Sheylan, Jailynn, and Charli. Great-great grandchildren Liam and Ella. As well as many nieces and nephews, especially her great nephew Colton who brought her joy and made her laugh every time he would visit.
Donna beat many challenges in her life, including lung, breast, and colon cancer, making her a three-time cancer survivor. She also suffered from dementia in her later years. She fought through it all and was a very strong woman who will be greatly missed.
Her family wishes to thank the staff at Compassus Hospice Care for their care and compassion.
