Dave was born in Portland on February 26, 1955 to Eleanor Brown Reed and Malcolm Clifford Reed of Portland. Dave graduated from Portland High School in 1973. He continued on to work at B&M Baked Beans in Portland in 1983 where he retired December 2021 after nearly 4 decades. He made many memories there as he created lifelong friendships. He took pride in his work and followed a regimented schedule having worked night shift for years. He will be remembered for his kind and thoughtful nature as he was a man who would do anything for anyone and a true gentleman. He never wanted to bother anyone for anything, priding himself as a stubborn, independent Mainer.
He played basketball and Baseball in high school and he played softball with his brother Steve on the Keg League. After retiring he enjoyed relaxing and always making the most of his days including following the latest sports highlights. He loved spending time catching up with his closest friends and family as well as his cat Skyler. He loved going to sporting events over the years. He was an avid Pittsburg Pirates, New York Giants and Los Angeles Lakers fan. He loved seafood, kicking back with an ice cold beer and cigar as well as trying his luck on scratch tickets.
Dave was predeceased by his parents Malcolm and Eleanor Reed and his partner Cindy Gallant, of many years.
He is survived by his two sons, Brian and David Reed Jr; brother, Stephen Reed and his spouse Melanie Reed and their children Kassy, Dante, Johnny, Samantha and Rayvin of Kentucky; Cousin, Doug Reed of New Hampshire; Sister-in-law, Venus Gallant and her partner Rick Johnson of Old Orchard Beach; Niece, Kara Clukey and her husband Shawn Clukey of Westbrook; Mother and father in-law, Ruth Norton and Francis Norton of Sanford; Son-in-law, Christopher Gallant and his partner Jenna Kelly and their children Mason and Riley Gallant of Biddeford; Brother- in-laws, John Gallant of Sanford and Lionel Gallant of Florida as well as several friends.
In keeping with his nature and wishes, services will remain private with close family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in his memory to the oral cancer foundation at oralcancerfoundation.org.
Dave, you touched the lives of many and will be so greatly missed. A special thanks to the medical team who cared for him and to The Gosnell Memorial Hospice House of Southern Maine in Scarborough who took great care of him.
