David L. Jackson passed away on October 9, 2017 peacefully with family at his side after a long illness. He was born on March 8, 1937 in Portland, ME to the late Eric Jackson and the late Madeleine Berry Jackson.
David grew up in Portland and graduated from Deering High School. He then moved to Florida and graduated from the University of Florida. After graduating, he moved back to Maine and married his wife of 55 years, Sandra Jellison Jackson.
David was a history and English teacher for the Portland School Department until he retired in 1996. In the beginning of his career in education he was the President of the Maine Teachers Association for several years. While he was a teacher at Lyman Moore, he led the Drama Club and while at Portland High School he ran the Photography Club. David Also worked part time in radio and television for over 30 years starting at WPOR Radio and then working for WCSH Channel 6 News.
During his spare time, he was a baseball umpire and swimming official. He loved to follow the Florida Gator sports teams and work on his computer. He and his wife also loved to travel and took several long trips across the United States.
David is survived by his wife, Sandra; children Vicki Jackson of Portland, Maine and Scott Jackson and his wife Dorie of Albany, Oregon; and his granddaughter Clara Leavenworth of Scio, Oregon.
David will be laid to rest privately at Brooklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to either American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
