Winthrop-Daryll Banks Kemp died on Thursday, December 21, 2016 in Augusta Maine after a brave battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Born February 14, 1938 in Youngstown, Ohio to parents James and Montrose Banks. Raised in a loving family that included her grandparents Arthur and Iva Ghee MacGregor Curtis.
Predeceased by her husband, grandparents, parents and brother Jim Banks.
Daryll earned her undergraduate in Speech Pathology from Kent State University and a masters from University of Southern California.
Married to Carleton A. Kemp for fifty years; birthed 3 children and co-parented 5 children from Carl’s previous marriage. Survived by all including daughter, Lauren Kemp Shea and William, Skye and Summer Shea; daughter, Stacey L. Kemp and Grace and Patricia Brace; son, Bradley E. Kemp and Laurel Beth C. Kemp; nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lived with her daughters Grace H. Brace and Stacey L. Kemp in Winthrop, Maine. Prior to that she resided in South Portland and Portland, ME.
Daryll retired from LL Bean where she trained customer service. She served on the Portland School Committee and was politically active and motivated to make positive impact and change in the world. She was articulate and a wonderful story teller. She loved family, friends, laughing, animals, holidays, flowers, travel, cooking, theater, Bug Lighthouse, North Conway, Disney and SeaWorld.
Given the holiday season and tricky travel, a celebration of life will be held in the spring.
