Charles Edward Wilkins of Cumberland, died on Sunday, December 30th, at the age of 62, shortly after his diagnosis of cancer. "Chick" was a beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle, as well as a respected businessman. Being both generous and kind-hearted, he touched the lives of many.
Chick spent the last 37 years of his life working for C.N. Brown Company, holding the title of General Manager as well as serving on the Board of Directors at the time of his passing. He also served as a Board member and Vice President of the Maine Grocer's Association, receiving the "Spirit Of America" award in 1996 from the National Grocer's Association. Chick served both as President and Vice President of the Executive Committee of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Maine and was still a member of the Executive Committee until his untimely death.
Chick was born on March 21, 1950 in Medford, MA. He resided in Dorchester, MA until moving to Cumberland in 1965, where he graduated from Greely High School in 1969. Chick went on to receive his Bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Maine in 1974. He met his wife, Robin Papaz Wilkins in 1972 and they were married in 1976. Charles is survived by his wife, Robin Papaz Wilkins and their daughter, Brooke E. Wilkins. He also leaves sister, Carol Veader and husband, John, brother, John "Jay" Wilkins and wife, Cathy Manchester, sister, Debra MacDonald, brother, David MacDonald and wife, Trudy Emch, as well as many nieces and nephews. Charles is predeceased by mother, Mary H. MacDonald, father, Charles S. Wilkins, and sisters, Kathy Wilkins and Cynthia Lawrence.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home,199 Woodford Street, Portland on Friday, Jan 4 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in honor of Charles on Saturday, Jan 5, at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 673 Stevens Ave, Portland.
