"Freddie" Goodwin was born is Springfield, VT October 13, 1941, to C. Frederick Goodwin, Sr. and Margaret Donald. His accomplishments started with becoming an Eagle Scout in 1955, and went on to include graduating from Colby College, and University of Miami. His medical training and teaching went on to touch the hearts and lives of many. He received the State Emergency Medical Services Award in 1989. He taught the first emergency medical technician course in Southern Maine in the early 1970s and continued to teach for several years. He was the first statewide emergency medical services training coordinator and was instrumental in establishing one of the first cooperative agreements for emergency medical training through state vocational colleges in the country. His achievements also include former Captain of the Scarborough Rescue.
Freddie was larger than life, always bringing a smile, and a laugh to all he met. He is survived by his lifelong companion and wife, Patricia of Freeport, and daughter Danielle Penna and her husband, Sean, of Jacksonville, FL. He will be dearly missed. Fred leaves one brother, Nelson, his wife, Karley, and their children and grandchildren.
There are no visiting hours scheduled. A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday August 11 at 10:00 AM in the Black Point Cemetery in Scarborough with Rev. Phil Shearman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine.
